Dr Asim Naqvi MRCGP - Vitamin B12 Deficiency: Beyond the Blood Test
*Dr Asim Naqvi MRCGP* is a GP with a special clinical and research interest in vitamin B12 deficiency. He is Medical Adviser to the B12 Society and has contributed to national work aimed at improving the recognition and management of B12 deficiency, including involvement in the development of NICE guidance.
Event Date: Monday 9th November 2026
Time: 7.00 PM UK UTC
In this talk, Asim will explore why B12 deficiency can be difficult to diagnose and why symptoms and the wider clinical picture matter alongside blood tests. Drawing on clinical experience, well-established biochemistry and physiology, he will explain how disruption of B12-dependent and interconnected metabolic pathways can translate into the neurological, cognitive, autonomic and other symptoms experienced by patients.
He will also discuss treatment response, less widely recognised clinical presentations, the limitations of current testing, and how bringing biochemistry and clinical medicine together can help us better understand why patients develop the symptoms they do — and where future research needs to go.
